GENERAL HYDROPONICS

Hydroponics is the process of growing plants without the use of soil. Instead hydroponics uses a nutrient solution and an alternative growth medium.

Hydroponics uses a nutrient solution to nourish plants, whereas aquaponics uses waste from aquatic creatures, typically fish.

Virtually any type of plant can be grown in a hydroponic system. The most common plants grown using these systems are lettuce, kale, strawberries, tomatoes, and various types of peppers.

Any variety of plants can be grown at the same time. However, we suggest that you grow plants of the same height because the light will need to be adjusted as the plants grow. Example: we suggest growing lettuce with other leafy greens such as kale, or spinach, and tomatoes can be grown with peppers, or strawberries.

The SucSeed All-in-One Hydroponic Grow Kit is a great option for all growers. It’s simple to use and produces a great yield! The all-in-one kit is our best seller, and customers aged five to ninety five have had great success with it!

We recommend placing your grow tank in a room approximately 18 degrees celsius. Since our tanks use LED lighting, they don’t need to be placed near a window.

We recommend cleaning the drippers once every 2-3 weeks, or if they stop dripping water. For an instructional video on how to clean the drippers, check out our YouTube channel.

We recommend hanging your grow light approximately 8 inches above your plants. This means that the light will be closer to the grow tank early in the growing cycle and will rise as the plant grows.

Each and every SucSeed hydroponic grow tank is manufactured by youth at Choices for Youth. To learn more about this incredible organization, visit our partners page.

We’re extremely proud to have SucSeed grow tanks operating in every province and territory in Canada. We also have systems abroad in Haiti and India. Our systems are operating in homes, offices, schools, retirement homes, food banks, and countless other locations.

Our grow tanks are designed to be user friendly and cost effective. Using our low-energy pump and LED grow light, SucSeed hydroponic grow tanks operate on approximately $0.30 of energy a day.

Our all-in-one hydroponic grow kit is 2 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet.

The SucSeed grow tank requires 34 litres of water at the time of set up, and an additional 34 litres when nutrients are changed.

For optimal results, we recommend doing a nutrient change approximately 2 weeks after your plants have sprouted, and another about 3 weeks after that.

At a minimum, we recommend testing the pH after each nutrient change. Ideally, pH level would be checked twice a week.

We recommend planting 2-3 seeds per pot. If all seeds germinate, some sprouts may need to be removed later in the growing process.

You can use any type of seeds in our hydroponic grow tanks. We sell seeds in our online store, but you can also purchase them at your local gardening store or hardware store.

Germination usually takes 7-10 days but can vary depending on the plant being grown. Seeds can be germinated directly in your grow tank.

There are several ways to pollinate plants in a grow tank. We recommend placing a fan in front of the plants, or blowing on the plants occasionally.

If you’re going away for under two weeks, your plants should be fine. Just make sure you top up the water and nutrients before you leave. If you’ll be gone for more than two weeks, you might want to ask a friend or family member to check on it and top up the water and nutrients if needed.

The number of harvests depends on the plant. Leafy greens, such as lettuce, spinach and kale, can be broken off and reharvested 2-3 times. Flowering plants like peppers, tomatoes and strawberries can be harvested until they stop flowering.
